What Makes Us Special?

If you want to know what music the Queen likes – and what she definitely doesn’t want to hear...

If you want to feel for yourself how heavy the Bearskin hat is – and what strange uses it can be put to...

If you want to know how stopping to look at a painting nearly caused an international incident...

If you want to know how the Guards always get it right...

...then take your own, personal Royal London Tour.

Colour Sergeant

We are truly unique as your guide, Martin Harvey, served in the Band of the Scots Guards for 14 years. Martin played the clarinet in the Regimental Band and the violin in the State Banqueting Orchestra. He travelled the world with the Guards – including Japan, Kenya, Canada, Australia and a three month coast to coast tour of the United States.

Martin also led the Orchestra which played in many royal residences, including Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and Holyrood House in Edinburgh. He played for many state occasions such as State Visits, Royal Weddings – including the wedding of Prince Charles to Lady Diana Spencer – and countless official banquets and receptions.

It is this knowledge of the ‘behind the scenes’ stories which give a real sense of being there and hearing first hand many of the anecdotes connected with all of the pomp and pageantry. Martin is a professionally qualified London Blue Badge Tourist Guide – the highest qualification you can get in guiding – so he knows his history as well!

So, if you want an insider’s view of the Changing of the Guard and Royal London then Royal London Tours is for you!

Martin brings along his Bearskin hat and Colour Sergeant's Tunic, so you can try them on and get that all important photograph.

Of course, as a professionally qualified guide Martin does lots of other tours. Some of them are listed on the website, but the ‘set tours’ may not suit everyone, so if you have any special interests why not contact us and Martin will put together a tour for you.
