Testimonials

London Walks with Martin at the Palace

Here are some testimonials which you can find on the Trip Advisor site:

We spent a number of days in London with our 7 year old son. We decided to use London Walks to see the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace and The Tower of London. FANTASTIC! Martin was funny, entertaining and so knowledgable about the procession and changing of the guard. We learned he played the clarinet and violon for about 15 years in the band so he is very familiar with the procession and events of the day. He met our large group promptly and gave us lots of information before heading to St.James and Buckingham Palace. We were at a perfect vantage point for the bands and guard coming down the Mall. There are literally thousands of people crwoding the area and you are just not able to see anything in front. But little did we know what was in store! After the procession, we went to the nearby park where Martin let everyone wear his bearskin hat and uniform. Then the best part - he took us to the barracks where the old guard goes and is relived after 24 hours of being on duty. It was great - seeing them enter and go through their protocal. We had the best seats in the house! The next day we went on a Tower of London tour with Brian. Again, funny gentleman who knows his facts! We had a great tour and history of the tower. Explanation of buildings, the best gory stories and really brough the Tower to life moreso than any audio tour there can. My son was enthralled and loved hearing al the facts about the tower. Martin and Brian addedquite a bit to our London adventures and can't wait to use them again on our next trip to fablous London!

Fabulous London Walk private tour

We hired a private tour through London Walks for the changing of the guard and St. James Park. The tour company will let you bring up to 20 people for this private tour for a flat rate of about 120 pounds. It was definitely a highlight of our trip and a great value. Even our kids couldn't get over everything they learned. Our tour guide, Martin, was brilliant. The tour company itself was very responsive and helpful, even rearranging our tour for an alternate day with better weather when it rained the day of our originally scheduled tour.
We took two children (ages 5 and 8), two adults and two seniors. Martin patiently answered all questions and interacted brilliantly with the children, while accomodating the slower walking speed of our group. As a former member of the Guard, he brought history to life. He knew exactly where to have us stand for the best sites. Interestingly, we didn't stand right in front of Buckingham Palace for the guard...he had us stand a bit back where we could see everything the Guardsmembers up close with no crowds. He also brought a guard hat and tunic which we all tried on! At the end of the tour, he helped us find a lovely pub for lunch.
If you are looking to really learn something and enjoy London, out of the crazy sized crowds, I would happily recommend this experience.
